Unmasking the Opponent by Tricky Poker Bets

Poker, especially Texas Holdem, is a game of control and deception. If we don't like being controlled, the opponent is likely to be similarly motivated. This means everyone is out at the table trying to control another player. But we can get ahead in the game by tricky poker bets.

Tricking or deceiving opponents in poker is not cheating. It means we try to out-smart them by leading them to a different direction. Tricky poker bets can be used in two ways: re-direct the opponent to defeat the same in the game and also unmask the enemy.

Unmasking means we force the opponent to give away important hints of what is in the opponent's hand. We do this by tricky poker bets. We bet big and see how the opponent reacts. If the opponent raises confidently, the opponent may have a strong hand. If the opponent reacts negatively, the opponent may have a weak hand. We should never discount the possibility of the opponent using the same tricky poker bets against us.

If the opponent knows the value of control, the opponent will raise or re-raise big to force us to react to it. Anyone who merely reacts to a bet is clearly controlled. Now, falling prey to a tricky bet - or reacting - means everybody else at the table sees our reaction. We may come out a sure loser in the end. If the opponent bets big and we hesitate before making a decision, everybody sees that we have a weak hand. If we are positioned unfavorably this adds to our negative disposition at the table. What do we do? We make a feeler wager - this is what tricky poker bets are made of.

Feeler or tricky poker bets are substantial bets placed to raise or re-raise the bets of the opponent. We take this risk because we don't want to end up the under dog in the game. Thus, at first, the opponent made us reveal what we have. But we counter this and make the opponent reveal what the opponent really has.

Hence, in the end, tricky poker bets make us gain the upper hand always. They also make the impression that we are a force to reckon with at the table.
